Family Game Night
If there’s one thing that most kids love, it’s playing games. Playing games together is a great way to bring the entire family together for a little lighthearted competition. Sit together at your coffee table and pull out a board game card game or even something like charades. Not only can you work together as a team, but it’s also a great way to teach good sportsmanship. Depending on your kid’s ages, some games may be more appropriate than others.
Younger kids will probably enjoy something more like Candyland, whereas older kids might enjoy something like Monopoly. If your kids are into video games, try playing with them! Even though it might not be your thing, sharing an activity that they enjoy playing is a great way to connect and show them you care about their interests.
Arts and Crafts
Arts and crafts are one of the best ways to participate in a hands-on activity together. It’s creative and downright fun. You don’t have to be a professional artist either. Something as simple as doodling together or painting can provide hours of time and fun together. Plus, it’s a great way to encourage their imagination and also yours.
Set up a little creative space at home with all the art supplies they could need period from markers to crayons to glue.
Create a space where they feel inspired. While you may initially be tempted to go on Pinterest and find complicated crafts, it’s best to stick to the simple ones. Try something straightforward like a greeting card or even an ornament for Christmas! Crafting doesn’t just allow you to be creative and connect, but it also improves motor skills.
Cook
As parents, we often take on the cooking role of cooking by ourselves. However, teaching your kids to join in on the cooking activities is a great way to have fun together. You can experiment with different recipes, and teach them how to make things from scratch rather than from a box. Half of the fun is choosing recipes together, so get them involved, choose different themes and ideas, and customize your meals together as a team.
